Mark Barrowcliffe is the author of the critically acclaimed The Elfish Gene, Dugeons, Dragons and Growing Up Strange, the first and so far only memoir of a Dungeons and Dragons playing youth.

'The Elfish Gene is a marvelous read. Mark Barrowcliffe's brilliantly self-deprecating humor perfectly skewers coming-of-age during the first wave of Dungeons and Dragons. It's a good thing he didn't become a cartoonist or I'd be in real trouble.' - Johh Kovalic, creator of Dork Tower comics.

Mark was among the first UK RPGers and regards anything published after 1978 as 'new stuff'. He still refers to his White Dwarf Number One as 'The Precious'.

He has published three novels - one bestseller - and one other volume of memoirs.

Mark had thought that he had finished with fantasy aged 23. He was wrong. You can take the boy out of Mordor but you can't take Mordor out of the boy.

His new novel Wolfsangel is published by Gollancz in May next year under the pen name MD Lachlan. It's the first of a series about an eternal battle between the Norse gods, played out by humans on earth. And it's got a werewolf in it. A really, really, nasty one. He's the hero.

Mark is also designing an RPG based on Wolfsangel. As he is also (this is a lot of alsos) writing the next book of the Wolfsangel series, doing articles for the national press, running creative writing courses, looking after two small children and attempting to find time to occasionally speak to his wife, it should be ready by about 2064.
